Seda France Candles at Collage Home

Seda France Candles
Just some of our selection of Seda France candles.

Candle: noun can·dle \ˈkan-dəl\ — A usually molded or dipped mass of wax or tallow containing a wick that may be burned (as to give light, heat, or scent or for celebration or votive purposes).

Before electrical lighting was invented, candles were the primary source of illumination. However, in our world today, candles are used mainly for their aesthetics—setting the tone for a soft, warm or romantic ambiance—and of course, their scent. And let’s not forget the occasional power outage… Florida summer storms are unpredictable, after all!

Many of you know Collage Home as primarily carrying home furnishings and home accessories. We are proud, however, to also carry candles, and our newest addition to the collection, luxury soaps. Our biggest selling line is Seda France. If you haven’t stopped in to see our collection of wonderful scents, you don’t know what you’re missing!

Seda France Soap

By paying special attention to the mixing and blending of exotic spices, flowers and grasses and the detail of their unique packaging, Seda France has quickly become the leading name in the home fragrance market.  Seda France has always been known for their extraordinary signature gift packaging, making their products celebrated as the “gifts that need no wrapping paper.”

Stop by this weekend and #gettoknowcollage! You’ll be especially glad get to know Seda France. With fragrances like Imperial Blossom, Citron du Sud, Japanese Quince, French Tulip and Bergamot Lavender, just to name a few, they just might be your new go-to gift of luxury.

Our Seda France candles range from $22.00 – $55.00. Hand soaps are $22.00.

One Night Only! The Lady, The Legend: Marilyn Maye

Posted on
Marilyn Maye Orlando Shakespeare Theater

She is a Grammy nominated recording artist and jazz legend and on Friday, April 29 you will not find Miss Marilyn Maye in any of her regular New York hot-spots like Joe’s Pub, Feinstein’s/54 Below or The Metropolitan Room. Miss Maye will be gracing Orlando with her presence at The Lowndes Shakespeare Center! She is a one-of-a-kind cabaret act who has been beloved by generations and is truly not to be missed.

If you aren’t familiar with Miss Maye, she has been entertaining audiences since she was 9 years old and has appeared on Johnny Carson a record-breaking 76 times! The esteemed Smithsonian Institution chose her recording of “Too Late Now” for its Best Performers of the Best Compositions of the 20th Century permanent collection, along with such other legendary singers such as Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Her time in the spotlight has earned her the title “The Grande Lady of Cabaret” and now, at 88, she is still touring the country and is as sharp as ever!

Needless to say, we don’t always get a rare gem like Marilyn Maye here in Orlando, especially in an intimate venue like The Shakes where you can see a legend up close and personal!

She’s funny and a bit spicy too—with a little twist (something you know we admire here at Collage Home!)

When I was really young (really… young) one of my favorite shows I would watch with my family was The Hollywood Palace.

I can’t say I remember this clip, but I know I would have loved it with watching with my father…. and I wouldn’t doubt this LP may have been in his record collection.

What’s not to love about this?! I love the song, the dress, the hair, the glitter, the finger snapping and the cha-cha-cha side step!

If you are a cabaret fan, or even if you have never seen a cabaret act, you must must must see Marilyn Maye!

Tickets start at only $30.00 and can be purchased from The Orlando Shakespeare Theater here.

And there’s an exciting opportunity being presented by Collage Home’s nonprofit sister company, The Melrose Foundation, in conjunction with Marilyn’s Orlando Shakes performance: the chance to learn one-on-one from Marilyn Maye at her Master Class at The Winter Park Playhouse! Singers should not miss this opportunity—in fact, some of our clients are auditing the class! You can find out more about the class and find tickets here.

I am so excited that Orlando is exposed to the arts to the extent that we are, and having a music legend visit the city is a fantastic chance for our fine and performing arts scene to continue to grow. Here’s to the future of Orlando arts!

Moving Out and About From Your Décor Comfort Zone

Posted on
Oyster Mirror - Moving

The past several days I have had my hands full dealing with something no one ever looks forward to: painting and preparing for a move from one zip code to another.

It never matters how far the move actually is…. It’s still moving, it’s still stressful, and it’s still hard on one’s body. However, thanks to several friends—who painted like champs and moved boxes up a flight of stairs like they worked for Mayflower—it is starting to come together. I could NOT have done it without them… and I thank them with all my heart!

Beyond just stressing about logistics, moving invites a very difficult choice: do you incorporate your existing furniture and design aesthetic into your brand new space, or use the move as an excuse to move out of your décor comfort zone and try something entirely new? For me, the answer was simple: working with Grant Gribble here at Collage Home makes it all too easy to want to change up my design palate.

So, with that being said… I have made the bold (and expensive) decision to shift from a Mid-Century Modern/rustic aesthetic with neutral colors to more of an eclectic, blue, white and black vibe—with a splash of Asian—and brass and gold, which is a brand new finish for me to be obsessed with.

I know what you’re thinking: Asian splash? Don’t worry, it will be fine! It throws people at first but the unexpected incorporation complements the rest of the décor beautifully.

I’ve had fun ordering a few things for my new house and new design scheme, but I have been a bit preoccupied with quite a few items here at the shop. How could I not be?!

Items like this have specifically caught my attention:

And these…

And these…

And, for the first time in years, I am thinking of wallpapering… And it’s not your mother’s wallpaper! And, yes, we have a kingsize selection at Collage Home.

2016 is a new year, so don’t be afraid to change or add to “your colors”… in the words of Shelby from Steel Magnolias, “My culahs ah Buhlush and Bashfuhl.”

Remember, it’s in the mix, not the match! #gettoknowcollage

Antiques Vintage & Garden Show and the Art of Tablescaping with India Hicks

India Hicks Luncheon

Visiting the Antique Vintage & Garden Show

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending one of my favorite events here in the Orlando area. Every year, the Council of 101, an organization within the Orlando Museum of Art, holds the Antiques Vintage and Garden Show at the OMA. Many antique dealers, orchid growers and outdoor garden purveyors show their wares, and on the first day of the show there is a luncheon and a guest speaker.

This year’s speaker was India Hicks, daughter of famed English designer of the 60’s and 70’s, David Hicks. The famous family members don’t stop there—her mother is Lady Pamela Mountbatten, the youngest daughter of the 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, and her Godfather is Prince Charles. She was even a bridesmaid in Princess Diana’s wedding! It goes without saying that India Hicks has lived a fascinating life.

India Hicks and the Art of Tablescaping

I must say Miss India Hicks did not disappoint! The focus was her beautifully written and photographed coffee table book, Island Style (the follow-up to her earlier release, Island Life.)

Her stories of growing up on the English Countryside in a grand (GRAND!) Manor (Manse!), vacationing with her grandparents in India (her namesake) and anecdotes of a father who set the tone of design for the Mod 60’s were all absolutely captivating.  After seeing the world, India ended up settling on Harbour Island in the Bahamas in a beautiful home she and her partner renovated.

The interior photos of her island home are stunning and showcase her laid-back decorating style and finesse.  She is particularly adamant about her collections and her “tablescaping”, a term coined by her father.

The art of tablescaping is something we have been doing at Collage Home for quite a while now. It’s a perfect way to merchandise many of our treasures.  Personally, I believe that it’s a splendid way to show off your prized objects—art, photos, books, vacation souvenirs, or whatever strikes your fancy. As the late David Hicks said, “It isn’t a matter of just connecting random objects on a table. Each object must be of first rate quality in itself; otherwise it really doesn’t work.”

Collage Home is great place to start adding to your collections. Our unique artifacts and objets d’art are ready to mix into your personal treasures! A good rule to collect by happens to be our golden rule here at Collage Home: “It’s in the Mix, Not the Match.”

Until next time,

Angelyn

Valentine's Day Love Statue - Collage Home

“There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done. Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung. It’s easy…. All you need is love.”

Ok, ok, I’m sure you get it—it’s hard to avoid the fact that Valentine’s Day is coming up this Sunday. At Collage Home, we love the spirit of Valentine’s Day and the positive emotions centered around February 14. It’s a day that seems to be associated with being in love, significant others, husbands, wives, married couples, “peoples” in love…. and that’s great! But, who says Valentine’s Day can’t be about like as much as it’s about love?

We give a thumbs up to almost everything these days.  We “Like” what people eat, what they wear, where they go and what they do. We “Like” the music we are listening to, even if we’d love to give a big thumbs down to the one song that puts us over the edge (for me, it’s MacArthur Park). One thing that’s hard for me to get used to is that we even “Like” when someone posts something tragic. We “Like” just as an acknowledgement.

Collage HomeBut, I digress. Back to the point: Valentine’s Day should be spent with those you love AND those you like! Your family, your BFFs, your “almost” BFFs or, heck, even your pup or kitty can be your Valentine! To me, Valentine’s Day is all about sharing the day with those who make you happy!

Collage Home is filled with gifts for the people that you like most in your life, regardless of your relationship status. So, grab a throw (we have a gorgeous selection) and wrap up with someone you like or love on this special day. Put on some tea (did I mention that we have beautiful tea sets, too?) and share a spot or a pot with someone you like.  Better yet, buy yourself a beautiful orchid and keep it for you and only you. Yes, we have those, and you would never know they are faux! Why not treat yourself?

As Walt Disney once said, “The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, and that makes you unique.”

Happy Valentine’s Day from Collage Home.  We hope that you have a “thumbs up” day, and that your heart is filled with like this holiday.
